2007 Update - During 2006 we added a separate dedicated new 12 x 40 foot building with 7 attached outdoor
runs. Each of the 7 runs has its own 4 x 4 foot indoor doggy house with heated water and thick rubber floor mat.
This Addition has made management of our growing doggy family members more manageable.
We also converted our original kennels into a dedicated Mommy/Puppy Nursery and birthing area and rebuilt the indoor
doggy houses to 4 x 4 feet and tiled the floor of the 14 x 28 foot nursery room. We aren't done yet, but it is closer
to what we want.
We built our Kennel outdoor runs onto a two-story 30x32 attached addition to our house. The 6' high chainlink
area consists of a 70 foot long area, 10 feet deep...or about 700 square feet of outside space. It wraps around the
North and East side of the building. It is fully concreted and sloped and washed daily. All the outdoor runs are
sun-shaded.
The dog 'houses" are actually inside the two-story building and each German Shepherd has his or her own swinging door
access to their own inside-the-building "house"..which is at least 3x3 feet in size. Floors are elevated and
insulated and in some cases electric floor heated. Each inside dog house also has an interior door into the building
so they can be and are let indoors that way.
In truly severe cold weather the inside of the dog's houses are also heated...but GSDs like to lay out on ice and snow
in the winter...so that is mostly for our comfort. LOL
We have camera's wired onto the birthing chambers so we can keep a constant watch on expectant moms and new pups.
If we had a decent internet connection (someday fiber optic cable will come that last short mile)..we will put live puppy
pictures up on this site!!
All the dogs get out to run around our fields and swim in our large pond at least twice a day.... and the older ones
can stay out much of the day. All our dogs swim and always head for the water first this time of year.
We live on 20 acres and there are no houses ..just trees in sight of us so our Pups are lucky dogs.
We will post many more pictures as time and our 28K internet connection allows.
