WE HAND-DELIVER PUPPIES NATIONWIDE
2007 Still only .25 Cents per mile!
We do NOT SHIP Them as air
Cargo.
We will personally drive and deliver
a puppy to just about any place in the 48 Lower United States or Canada. The Price is very reasonable and
is explained below and may be discounted if we have other reasons to be in your area or if we have more than one puppy going
to your area.
If you live a far distance from us here in Southern Illinois, we hope you will still try
to visit us and see the puppies. Motels in our area are around $30 per night or
we can even offer camping here at our farm. The Shawnee National Forest is a beautiful place to visit.
However, if it seems too far for you to drive to
visit our kennel - we do personally drive and deliver puppies or meet people
partway between our farm and your home to deliver pups to their new owners.
We are not yet convinced that it is either safe or healthy for a very young puppy to be
put in a crate and shipped in a plane’s cargo hold or baggage compartment. Puppies
are babies and they are easily traumatized and they are upset enough about leaving their Mom and brothers and sisters as it
is. A puppy’s earliest experiences can affect its personality for the rest
of its life….being put on a plane as cargo just cannot be a positive experience!
So, we drive and deliver puppies when people can’t come to us.
We are investigating pet delivery services where the pets are escorted and not loaded
on planes like freight –but, it appears to be quite expensive – more than we charge for driving the puppies
ourselves.
For that matter, our puppies stay with their Moms until they naturally and gradually wean
themselves which starts happening around weeks 8-10-12. We think it makes no
sense to take a pup away from its Mom and littermates any sooner than that. It
costs us more to keep the pups longer, but we think it is healthier for the puppies.
Mom has “dog things” she needs to teach her puppies.
We might consider air shipping an older puppy….say a puppy over 4 or 5 months of
age who has been acclimated to being in a crate and prepared for such a trip. But,
even then, we would still prefer personal delivery.
OUR DELIVERY CHARGE IS BASED ON WHATEVER OUR OUT-OF-POCKET
COSTS ARE.
We will consider driving a puppy to a buyer or meeting a buyer on the road somewhere - say 500-750 miles from our home near Mt. Vernon, Illinois. We might (and have) drive considerably further than 1,000 miles,
depending on the time of year and what else is going on in our lives. We charge .25 cents per mile (or less) roundtrip as a delivery charge. All we want to do is have the delivery charge cover our gasoline and expenses
on the road.
If we have 2 puppies to deliver to the same town we will cut the delivery charge in half
for each buyer. If we have 3 puppies to deliver to the same area, we will cut
the cost by 2/3rds for each buyer. Etc.
So if you are quite a distance from us, you might see if you have any
friends or neighbors in your area who might be interested in a puppy.
For example,
a 500 mile drive out and back (1000 mile drive) would be a delivery charge of $250. That is a rate designed to just reimburse our out-of-pocket costs. Given the very low price of our puppies that would still make it an extremely good
value - for example $750 for the puppy +$250 delivery = $1,000 total. That
is still far less than a poor quality "Puppy Mill" pup from a pet store.
If we feel our expenses will be less than 25 cents per mile, then we will quote a lower price for delivery.
Another example, delivery or meeting you 200 miles from our farm would mean a 400 mile
round-trip drive for us, so we would charge a $100 delivery charge, making the total price of a $750 pup (including
delivery) : $850. That would, for instance, be near the south suburbs of Chicago or to places like Indianapolis, IN, Kansas City, KA/MO, Memphis TN, Nashville,
TN etc. If we were delivering two puppies to two different buyers in the same
city, each buyer would only pay $50 for hand-delivery in this example.
